About us

The University of Palermo’s Department of Architecture is project partner n. 9 of iHERITAGE. ICT Mediterranean Platform for UNESCO Cultural Heritage funded by ENI CBC MED Programme 2014-2020. It is contributed in work package n.3 of the project dedicated to the Living Labs in which the innovative ICT outputs foreseen by the project have been developed with the support of external experts involved through specific Research Agreements financed by the project.
During the development of iHERITAGE project, UNIPA tried to maximize the scientific research results by developing innovative products via Living Labs and industry-academia partnerships enabling to qualify and improve the level of information, communication and fruition of UNESCO cultural heritage related to the «Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedral Churches of Cefalù and Monreale», established in 2015, and of the others Norman assemblagies (including buildings, pieces of arts and infrastructures), that have not yet been included in this World Heritage Listed UNESCO site, but that represent  Cultural Heritage (CH) of the territory. The final aim is to preserve the Arabic-Norman legacy for future generations. The research team is composed by researchers from the departments of Architecture and Engineering from University of Palermo.

The 2014-2020 ENI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme is a multilateral Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) initiative funded by the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI). The Programme objective is to foster fair, equitable and sustainable economic, social and territorial development, which may advance cross-border integration and valorise participating countries’ territories and values. The following 13 countries participate in the Programme: Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Palestine, Portugal, Spain, and Tunisia.
